BOOK RELEASE DINNER
Rome: A Culinary History,
Cookbook, and Field Guide to the Flavors that Built a City
with Guest Food Writer and Author Katie Parla
Join us for a special evening celebrating the release of Katie Parla’s Rome: A Culinary History, Cookbook, and Field Guide to the Flavors that Built a City. Our guest of honor, Katie Parla, will be signing books and answering questions throughout the evening, bringing two decades of culinary experiences in Rome and Italy to share.
Chef Melissa Perello has prepared a seasonal menu directly inspired by Katie's profound knowledge of Roman cuisine, entirely composed of recipes found in the book.
Italian wine specialist David Lynch (North Berkeley Imports) has curated an all-Italian wine pairing and bottle list to accompany the evening’s menu, and he’ll be onsite adding storied context from the world of wine.
About Katie Parla
Katie Parla is a Rome-based food and beverage writer, culinary guide, and cookbook author, whose work is a deep exploration of Italian food, culture, and history.
Growing up in New Jersey, Katie's passion for food was instilled early, thanks to parents who met in the restaurant business. This early obsession led to a dedicated career: she worked in restaurants in college, studied wine after graduation, and earned a Master's Degree in Italian Gastronomic Culture from the Università degli Studi di Roma “Tor Vergata.” She also holds an art history degree from Yale University and a sommelier certificate.
Katie is an established author in the culinary world, having written, edited, or contributed to more than 30 books. Her latest cookbooks include The Joy of Pizza, Food of the Italian Islands, Tasting Rome, and Food of the Italian South.
An expert on Roman foodways, Katie has appeared on shows like Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy and Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern. Her latest book, Rome: A Culinary History, Cookbook, and Field Guide to the Flavors that Built a City, is a testament to her decades-long relationship with the Eternal City.
